This workshop will outline problems that occur when we solely rely on psycho-educational reports to develop learning profiles and individual education plans for students with ADHD.  Psycho-educational testing, while helpful in ruling in or out specific learning disabilities, are not comprehensive or accurate when assessing for learning and self-regulation impairments caused by ADHD.

New CADDAC tools that have been developed to assist in the documentation of ADHD impairments in the education environment will be presented. In addition, this presentation will also summarize why psycho-educational testing can be a human rights violation and detrimental to a student with ADHD in the post-secondary setting.

Join us for a hilarious night out - Is it Me or the ADHD? Starring Patrick McKenna will provide a funny, but real look at what it's like to live with ADHD

Actor Patrick McKenna may be best known for his fifteen years of television work portraying Red Green’s nerdy techno geek nephew Harold, on the RED GREEN SHOW or in APTN’s new hit drama series, HARD ROCK MEDICAL- but it’s his work on the award-winning Documentary “ADD and Loving it” that brings Patrick the most satisfaction. It was during the filming of the documentary that McKenna was “officially” diagnosed with ADHD. Since that time McKenna has been using his hilarious ADD experiences and perspective to tour Universities, conferences and PBS stations throughout North America touting and promoting the benefits of ADHD testing in children and adults. As McKenna notes, “It’s never too late to find out what makes you fantastic! Or at the very least – where you left your keys.”

Also performing will be the "Yes Men" Improv group featuring Neil Crone from Little Mosque on the Prairie

ADHD: High School to College & University - Planning Ahead for a  Successful Transition

Webinar presented by Dr. Joan Flood

The transition to post-secondary school is exciting and daunting for all young adults, especially those with ADHD.  On the one hand, students are hopefully engaged in subjects that hold their interest and are more relevant to their future aspirations.  On the other, this is a world of adults - students are expected to self-manage their time, care for themselves, hand assignments in, and prepare for exams with little outside help.  No more parents or teachers hovering nearby to lend a hand.  There is newfound freedom and access to many temptations.  How can you as a student or a concerned parent best prepare for this new life?

Learn how to plan for post-secondary years.  How do you choose the best school? Do you take a full or partial course load?  Connecting with your school's academic support centre and working for accommodations that ease the burden can mean the difference between walking out with a degree or burning out.  Knowing how to navigate college and university life is the way to ensure success!

Adult ADHD and Substance Use Disorders-What's the Deal?

Dr. David Teplin is an Adult Clinical Psychologist in private practice. His clinical practice focuses primarily on Clinical Assessment, Clinical Consultation, Adult ADHD, and Substance Use Disorders. He is also an adjunct professor, where he teaches doctoral level courses. In addition, Dr. Teplin is on the Editorial Review Board of several peer-reviewed journals, serves on Professional Advisory Boards for Adult ADHD, and recently served as Chair of the Canadian Psychological Association Task Force on the Legalization of Cannabis.

While each are independent disorders, there are several factors involved as to why there exists such high overlap rates, both in ADHD clinical settings, as well as in addiction treatment settings. Some emphasis will also be placed on the issues of assessment, diagnosis and treatment, including the notion of an integrated treatment approach.
